President Greeting:

This Sunday, April 30, kicks off our May Week! We will be worshiping with Soror Pastor Kimmie Daily at Christ Holy, located at 1119 Arizona St, College Station. Service starts at 11a. Following service, for those interested, we will go to lunch at Cheddars. 


Monday, May 1, our Literacy Activity, reading to elementary and grade level children at the Lincoln Center from 3:30p-5:30p. We are still welcoming volunteers. Please contact Soror Tasmin McDonald at mcdonald.tasmin@gmail.com no later than Friday, April 28, if you’re able to help. 

Friday, May 5, please join us for our Hidden Figures Watch Party Night and Discussion at 7:13p. This event will be held at the Brazos Valley African American Museum and is open to women, high school aged to adult. We ask that you take special interest in marketing this event to mother daughter combos; however, all women are welcome. Please forward the contact info to Soror Jessica Pierce at jnpierce320@gmail.com, if you plan to attend to include your guest count, or the information of guest who have confirmed their attendance with you no later Wednesday, May 3. Light snacks will be provided.

Saturday, May 6, is our BVAA Family and Friends Picnic at the OWL Ranch, located at 4971 Winding Creek Road, approx. two miles North from CJ’s on Hwy 30. The festivities will be from 12 noon to 3pm. The chapter will be covering the hamburgers, buns and water. We are asking Sorors to provide the fixins’: salads, other sides (i.e. beans), package of hotdogs and buns, snacks, desserts, drinks (BYOB). 

Tables and chairs are not needed. Prepare the kids for outdoor activity— pool, fishing, games– Adults too— dominoes, cards other suggested games or Olympic competitions (bring them)!

HERITAGE AND ARCHIVES:

2017 Delta Heritage Celebration Award deadline for submission is May 1, 2017.  Award submissions should include items from January – April 30, 2017.  *Submissions received after May 1, 2017 will not be considered.

 Sorors if you don’t submit you can’t win.  See you in Las Vegas. 

 

Social Action:

The deadline is quickly approaching to submit your Social Action “Action Award” applications and/or Proposed Resolutions for consideration at the 53rd National Convention. Click Proposed Resolutions or Social Action “Action Awards” to access the criteria and guidelines.

The deadline for all submissions is Sunday, April 30, 2017, at 11:59 pm EST.

BLACK ART: ANCESTRAL LEGACIES ART EXHIBIT OPENING EVENT

Join us at the Brazos Valley African American Museum on Saturday, April 29th, 2017 at 7pmfor a poetry reading by award-winning poet Dr. Michael Collins and Santrofi—A Traveler’s Tale, a one-person play written and performed by Dr. David Donkor.

The exhibition includes a traveling photo-panel exhibit based on a major exhibition of original art works organized by the Dallas Museum of Art. The exhibition will be open 29 April 2017 through 19 May 2017.

Regional New

We are pleased to announce that the Leadership Southwest II application period is now open.  Collegiate and alumnae Sorors from throughout the region are encouraged to apply for the leadership program.  As announced during the state meetings, 12 alumnae and 13 collegiate sorors will be selected for the leadership program. Attached is the brochure for the program and the application is located on the home page of our regional website, www.dstswregion.org.  The application period is April 1 – 30, 2017.  If you have questions about the program, please contact the program co-chairs at dstleadershipsw@gmail.com.
